Wedding Bells- A tradition passed from generation to generation
Whenever we prepare to play music for a wedding, we begin by getting to know a couple, their family, their story, and their personal taste. Mallory and Scott recently had a great wedding story, and gave us the honor of participating in a family tradition.
As we got to know them better, we discovered that they Mallory came from a family familar with wedding music. Her Grandmother, Fran Slack, was a pianist. She played Wedding Bells by Dudley Peele as part of wedding prelude music at numerous weddings for more than 40 years, always dedicating the song to her husband Jack. She also played it in church the Sunday before their wedding anniversary those same years and as recently as July 2015 for their 65th wedding anniversary.
Mallory and Scott met as Freshmen at Texas A & M through mutual friends that were in a freshman leadership organization. Even though they were young—Mallory was only 18—they knew they were a great match.
They dated for six years. Scott hates cliches, but when they had the opportunity to take a trip to Costa Rica over Valentines Day, it was too good to pass up. They spent a day on a beautiful golf course. As they played they saw the ocean on one side, and the jungle on the other.
They played 17 holes, but by the 18th hole Mallory could tell Scott was getting nervous. For good reason! As she took her last swing, Mallory found the ring box waiting in the hole! Of course she said “yes.”
When planning the wedding itself, they were thrilled to work with Becky Navarro of Pearl Events, and even had the chance to watch another wedding through the window of the venue.
Their goal was to keep things traditional, stress free, and to honor their family’s memories.
Scott and Mallory wanted to honor the tremendous role model that Fran and Jack’s enduring marriage provided. Mallory's mother, Sue-Ellen suggested that the preparing an arrangement of Wedding Bells for string quartet would be a great way to incorporate their family tradition into Scott and Mallory's wedding. It was an honor to participate in this tradition and to help the family feel much more at home.
With the wedding behind them and marriage ahead, Mallory has one piece of advice for future brides: don’t get stressed out and try to remember what the wedding is really about. For Mallory, it was about getting to spend the rest of her life with Scott. Mallory and Scott, thank you for allowing us to share your story and to be a part of your wedding!
At Terra Vista Strings, we want to help you follow Mallory’s advice. We work directly with you to make sure that chosing music is stress free and fits your taste and style. Contact us today, and we’ll get started on your perfect soundtrack!
